Not getting Flickr description on download

description

Hi, Thank you very much for this tool. It is solving a major headache for me. :) The one issue I am having however is not getting the description field from Flickr properly. If I sync from a Flickr album to an empty folder on my computer, the title and keyword tags are coming through fine but the description field locally after downloading from Flickr is being filled by the title. (as well as the title field itself) Am I doing something wrong? (I'm not sure if this is the same problem as the message below or not)

Hi. Not all applications agree on what is the description field in a picture. Can you try with the option "Use alternate metadata mapping" enabled in my tool (see attached screenshot)? Hopefully that better suits your needs.

If it doesn't work let me know what program you are using to view the title and description of your local pictures.

The various applications handling the fields differently makes sense with what I am seeing and not sure there is going to be answer. :) My primary photo program is Zoner Photo Studio. I have also checked the results with Windows 10 Photos (pretty crappy program) and the older Windows Photo Gallery. All seem to give varying results.
If I change to "alternate data mapping" Zoner shows the description and tags from Flickr properly, but the title from Flickr doesn't. :) It actually shows the "Object Name" from the exif data as the title.
I had one other idea that may make some sense to you. Dug through some of the settings in Zoner and according to the help file on "photo information" Zoner says the following: "photo info can be stored in 3 types of data sources, EXIF, IPTC, and XMP" Their default is XMP. Is this maybe where my problem is showing up?
Finally, I do have one other question that isn't directly related to MetadataSynchr. The photos on Flickr are in a specific order. When I download them, Windows is sorting by the Flickr filename which is giving a completely messed up order. Any suggestions there?
Thank you for all the help!

Okay, I've tweaked the metadata write a bit. It is now a combination of normal and alternate ;)

Can you give it a try, download version 1.8.3. from here: OneDrive Link

As far as the order goes. In Windows Explorer you can add the column "Date taken" to the list display and you can sort on that.

Gave it a try this morning and it is much closer. :) Using the alternate metadata mapping, I downloaded to an empty folder and the title, description and tags all came in perfectly. :) However, if I make title or description changes, it seems to mess things up when I sync again. (it gets pretty confusing here trying to get repeating errors to tell you)
This one I can repeat. If I have a fresh download match. Then make a change in the title at Flickr. When I sync again, in the local photo, the title changes properly, but the original problem comes back, where the description is the title as well. I think I had another in my testing but not positive.
I personally don't actually need further tweaking to the program, since in my circumstance, I am downloading a fresh copy of everything at Flickr to my local hard drive. (these are all my late father's photos including many old family ones) So your tweak fixes my needs. But I am also happy to continue doing some testing to track down the remaining bits if you would like. :)
Thank you very much for the fix!

I am glad your issue was resolved for the download scenario. As there is so much difference in how tools handle the title/description metadata I am hesitant to make further changes or publish this version.

So no need for further testing I would say.

Yep, makes sense. Thank you very much again for the software and the fix. :)
